Maybe It Was Me
I saw your picture today,
God knows it has been a while.
You’re looking good – I knew you would,
You still have that sense of style.
Your hair is much shorter now,
You wear it well – I’m not surprised.
In-fact the only change – I found strange,
Was when I looked at your eyes.
A picture can speak a thousand words,
As it allows the memories to unfold.
Yet it can’t replace – or even erase,
That the eyes are the windows to the soul.
The light that once shined bright,
Has somehow disappeared.
The one I use to see – when you looked at me,
Maybe the pixels weren’t clear.
That happiness you once had,
You always had that beautiful glow.
What I don’t see – might be me,
All that the picture doesn’t show.
Some things just can’t be captured,
You won’t find them in a photograph,
It’s been a while – but I had to smile,
When I remembered how we use to laugh.
I could only hope you were doing well,
And the tired look was just the glare,
That all I didn’t see – was simply me,
And not a sign of the cross you had to bear.
I prayed for your health and happiness,
As I remembered how you use to be,
That look in your eyes – made me realize,
It could have been me.
